Training Workshops
The Computer Assisted Debate Program offers interested volunteers numerous opportunities to either learn about or sharpen their debate judging skills. First, each month there are middle school tournaments (see calendar) where we offer judge training sessions. At these sessions, instructors go over the structure of a debate, take about the criteria for judging, and pass out valuable handouts on judging.
After successfully completing judge training, individuals are then given the opportunity to judge at tournaments. Second, potential judges can come to sessions throughout the week and both observe the student’s instruction and work with instructors in their areas of need. Finally, potential judges really committed to enhancing their judging skills can enroll in a session of the summer workshop (see calendar) where one would receive in-depth debate training and instruction. Regardless of your choice, learning how to be a better adjudicator only means you will play an even bigger role in the educational growth of the students you judge. Come! Learn! Judge!
